Abnormal oil consumption

I've been dealing with abnormal oil consumption in my 335 for almost 2 years. I first brought it up to my dealer last year, when I was going through a quart every 1,500-2,000 miles. Their initial response was that it was within BMW specs (which is supposely 750 miles). About 6 months later, I brought the issue up again and they did a oil consumption test and supposely opened a case with BMW. For some reason, that top-off lasted me 3000 miles so they did not pursue the issue further. Now fast forward to the last 3 months where I've been adding a quart every 800-1000 miles! I'm taking car in for service on Thursday, and want them to relook at this issue. Wondering if anybody might have a suggestion or experience in this matter. I've got no noticeable leaks, nor do I see any blue smoke so not sure where the oil is all going. Just frustrated that I'm consistently buying and adding oil. Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

1) Try a different dealer. OR

2) If you are still under warranty, make BMW fill it up with their oil every time it needs it. This way they will see how ridiculous it is, you will have an "official" record of it, and maybe they will do something about it (re-open the case).

If this is an automatic I bet you have a RMS failure. The oil is in bell housing.

I believe that BMW spec states adding a quart every 750 miles is "normal". That's probably why you're having a tough time getting them to do anything about it. You may want to try a different dealer though, RMS failure as mentioned above is probable and maybe your dealer is just missing it. I completely agree that adding oil as much as you have been is not normal, despite BMW's definition.

The bell housing is not sealed so if your rear main seal failed you would definately see oil on the ground. Especially if the leak was consuming 1 quart every 800 miles. My best guess would be a defective crankcase oil seperator. This part is intergrated into the valve cover and have been known to fail and cause excessive oil consumption. I would continue to press the issue with the dealer and get BMWNA involved. Good luck.
