Random puffs of smoke

So let me start out by saying that I am completely catless (secondary and primary) and have only recently noticed this issue. I'm thinking it's not mod-related however.

Every so often at random.. a big random puff of smoke will shoot out my exhaust when I'm stopped in traffic... I honestly don't catch it most of the time until it's going by the front of my car. Any of you experience the same thing?

Friends tell me the smoke is white/blue colored and think it's normal since I'm fully cat-less. I'm not throwing any codes at all. Could it be the valve cover gasket or a leak somewhere? It seems to be happening more often the last week and I'm getting a little concerned.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My dad had the same problem a couple of months ago with his e46 325i. It started when my mom started the car with the accelerator pushed down. (My mom isn't very good with cars) Mechanic removed all oil, cleaned all spilled oil around cylinders, filled new oil, and replaced two collapsed rubber hoses.
