How Much Do You Know About BMW?

Alfred2011-02-17 20:43:38 +0000 #1
Well, tonight, this girl in my class saw the background of my phone (BMW symbol). She asked if I knew what BMW was short for. I said, yes I do. Then, she asked if I knew what the blue and white in the symbol meant. I was like ....nooo? Then, she explained to me what the colors meant and how she was into BMW's because her initials are "BMW"

Anyways, I felt really stupid that a girl (BLONDE) out-smart me (not even sure if she was right) .

Without googling it, do you guys know what the colors stand for?

Propeller. I'm a blonde girl. I knew that.

I guess I'm just a noob.

What about the white though?

The propeller thing is up for debate as some believe it has to do with the Barvarian Flag..

The propeller reasoning - an engineer liked how it looked when a propeller was spinning and the sun was reflecting off it..

Oh, and to answer your question, the last person to post on a thread knows more than anyone who posted before. That's how the internet works.

Well, at least she knew about the propeller.

A recent story in the New York Times dispels the ‘spinning propeller’ myth of the BMW roundel. Much to the dismay of many, the article is 100% correct, the origins of the blue and white checker in the BMW roundel has nothing to do with a propeller.

Instead it has everything to do with the national colors of Bavaria, which is, of course, incorporated in the name of the company. One only has to look at the logo used by the company BMW emerged from, Rapp Motor Works, to understand.

To Put it all to rest, I work for a BMW company the CA guy is right; it has nothing to do with the propeller, contrary to popular belief, actually it is said that the original bmw logo was made by accident; they placed a cup on a picture of the Bavarian flag and through the circle/ring they saw and decided to keep it, however that is hear-say it did indeed come from the flag and not the propeller theory.
