Alright I feel retarded asking this question but I'm going to do the first oil change on my Brute today (650i), I was just wondering what oil would be the best to use that I can get at the local auto parts store.. also when or should I change my diff fluid? Thanks for any help and input in advance

you can run just about any oil you would like. most people here are running synthetic oil. I however just run 10w-40 penzoil in mine. i run the same oil in my front diff. I change the oil in my front diff about ever other ride. depending on how much water and mud i ride in.

Your owners manual will tell you the specs and when to change it. Remember that not all oils meet the sheering specifications required for shared-sump systems such as the Brute and most other motorcycle systems. That means that the oil must not only be rated for use in an engine, but in a gearbox as well. That's why they want you to use the same in the front diff as you do in the engine as both have gears to deal with. And as this is your first change, better stay with conventional for at least one more round as she isn't broke in yet.
