got some questions?

well today we decided to go mud riding. first time since i did all the mods. so today was the big test. few questions.

1. went into the garage to load her up in the truck. started her up and she started just fine. after about 10 seconds started to notice a little smoke coming out the exahust. smoked for about 20 seconds and then went away. went rode her around and still no smoke. never smoked again the rest of the day. any idea's on why the little bit of smoke?

2. we were riding through a creek, sand, mud, and water mixture. exahust snork went under and she cut off on me. pulled the snork out the water, and it took a few times but she started up. gave alot of throttle and wasnt shooting water out the exahust or anything. should i be concered with water in the motor from going in the exahust? after this happened she ran pretty good, only cut out once when i was at a complete stop.

3. not a question, but first time really tested out the Zilla's and they did fine in mud holes but aint worth a S*** in water when your floating. dont feel like spending money on tires so just gonna try to stay out from floating her lol. overall they did ok.

Unburnt fuel? or a change in the mix due to mods?

def check, and prolly change oil. And sounds as if something electrical is wet. Did ya grease all connectors and the plug boots? Is the airbox sealed at the lid? Jus thinkin of the obvious stuff first b4 ya go to tearin it apart.

are you sure its oil smoke and not steam? mine steams for a few sec. when i first fire it up. if i hold my hand up to it for a bit, my hand will be kinda wet. oil smoke lingers in the air too

did you just put the exhaust on cuz my exhaust is fresh and it smokes when it first starts since i put the muzzy on

The exhaust has been on for about a month and has been run pretty good. But it wasn't steam because it was real white and had a smell to it.

I did put dielectric grease on all of my connections under the seat and got as many of the plugs I could around the motor. After she cut out I didn't have any water coming out of the exhaust and when I got back on the trails I didn't have any problem with power. I hit the gas and she went like the brutes do. Then I got on the main road and guned it and she never missed a beat, had great power

maybe a little oil is leaking into the combustion chamber from around the valve guide seals. that would explain the smoke when you first start it. i would make sure its always full of oil and let er eat. if its runnin good, dont sweat the small stuff

Check yer oil level and yer airbox for oil. vtwin kawis do not like to be overful on oil. They WILL smoke if overfull. If yer airbox has remnants of oil in it that means its over full or you had it at an angle on a hill or somethin. The airbox gets oil in it then the motor sucks it into the carbs and burns the oil in the engine. If you ride a bunch of wheelies too it will smoke. It takes a while for water to get into the exhaust and into the cylinder. It has to go through the exhaust with all that packing. I'd say yer ok with the exhaust. If you get water in through the intake then you got a big prob. Exhaust is more forgiving than intake system. I've noticed when my atv is floating, barely givin it throttle will make the tires be like paddle wheels. A tire barely rotating does better than a tire goin fast due to cavitation just like in jet skis.

i wasnt going to fast in the water, but it was a mix of sand, mud, and water and going slow i was going no where lol. it was just a bad spot we were in though. next time maybe i can try it in just clear water. but i dont really ride wheelies to much. maybe one or two here and there. i washed down the bike and cleaned it real good and when i was finished i opened up the air box and it was dry. didnt look like had any water or any oil in it. Im going to change the oil once or twice tomorrow, but im thinking i should be good with no water getting in the motor. if water had gotten into the motor it would have started smoking and running poorly correct?

Well could be yer valve seals then. How many hrs on it? Yea it will run crappy with water in it. Plus water and electronics dont mix. Especially fuel injected machines. Like it was mentioned before, anything hot will steam bad. You just need to know the diff between steam and oil smoke.

I know the difference between the steam. I've been having it For a year now and running it it 30 degree weather during hunting season it's steams alot. But this was a diffent color and was white and had a smell to it. I started it up cold and it had started smoking just for a few seconds. Hasn't done it since.

Sounds like oil smoke. Probably just a freak thing. Just keep checkin yer engine oil and you will be ok.
