Best way to clean carbs

Floyd2010-08-10 16:40:24 +0000 #1
I pulled the carbs off the 06 brute I got off CL and they were nasty. The bowls were full of gunk, the jets, needles, and anything else in them were nasty and full of crude. The jets were clogged 3/4 up. I used some cheap carb. cleaner but it didn't take all the crude out of holes in the jets. Just wondering if there is a better method of cleaning the carbs or anything I can use to cut all the crude out.

This brute has a snorkle kit on it. The front carb has a 152 jet and the back has a 158. Are these the factory jets? What jets would be a good place to start to get this thing dialed in once I get it running.

Those are the stock jets. As for the best way to clean a carb..well.. Vating. Have to completely take it apart and leave no rubber or plastic parts on it anywhere. You used to could but a small carb vat at NAPA but I'll bet you can't any more. Maybe take them to a shop that does carb work and let them vat yours.

if i can remember right one of the major parts stores carries a gallon jug of parts cleaner.its made by "chemtool" . looks like a paint can. this may help . its maybe something to look into anyway. has anybody used this stuff before and would it help him. its been a long time since i seen it anywhere but i havent been looking for it either.

soaking it in tranny fluid over night works well. loosens all the stuff up, then clean as normal. never done it with a brute carb, but works with quadrajets and lawnmower carbs.
