Olympic excitement

It is really exciting living in Canada right now. The Olympic torch has travelled through large cities and small communities from the east coast through all the provinces on it's way to Vancouver, BC.

It has been in Calgary the last couple of days. Tomorrow is the last day it's here. Calgarians are just buzzing with enthusiasm. For a number of people this is a reminder of 1988 when the winter olympics were held here. I moved here in 1989 so I missed it.

My son's school is taking the kids tomorrow morning (he has to be there at 6AM) to watch the relay runners carry it on to it's next destination. It's amazing that at 8-years-old he's willing to get up that early for this.

Pray for snow and cooler weather. It's been very warm this last little while and that could have an effect on a number of the sports.

Congrats on hosting the Olympics in your country! I spent almost two weeks in Calgary and the surrounding areas a few years ago for my honeymoon. We had a great time. The exchange rate at the time was like 160%, so everything was really cheap compared to the U.S. The weather was a little chilly (early November), especially compared to New Orleans! We toured the Olympic Park in Calgary while we were there and even got to see the Jamaican bobsled! Our favorite city was Banf. One day I hope to come back.

Actually Calgary's not hosting it, Vancouver is. We're just part of the fanfare before the games begin.

Yeah, Banff is a beautiful place. Everytime I head to the mountains I'm in awe at the size and beauty of it all. This is God's country after all. Don't believe me...have your cell phone on text and type in our area code 403 - spells God.

If you want to talk about over-rated. You should have been here when the Queen showed up. Before her arrival They re-paved the 300km stretch of highway from Calgary to Edmonton and renamed that highway Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2)...I still call it Deerfoot. They repaved all the city routes she was taking and closed those roads an hour before and after she was on them. I worked around the corner from the hotel she was in....couldn't go anywhere. THAT was a pain in the butt.
